Electric Schemes

The war had been fought and won by drone pilots–men and women in control rooms far from the frontiers of the enemy and the battlefields filled with crossfire and smoke. In those foreign climes, unmanned machines fought each other in a strategy game played over seven years. Neuronics made that possible, interfacing hundreds of billions of neurons–pilot as one with machine. What would happen if you could do the same with people, interfacing consciousness, merging to create a vaste neural matrix. They call themselves the Convergence.

Concept: Technology took a leap in the 60s, when it became possible to transfer vast amounts of information between the human brain and machines. By the 70s, robotics joined neuronics on the cutting edge. In the 80s, the two combined to make war a remote experience, soldiers distant from the destruction. For the 90s, in peace, neuronics became the number one pastime, a totally new experience outside of the human body. It’s 1996–and you do what you do to survive, because the people you know aren’t coming back…
