The Second Great Flood

On 11 March 1864, the newly constructed Dyke Vale Dam collapsed as it was filled for the first time, releasing 3 billion litres of water. The resulting flood that swept down the Loxley Valley and through Sheffield killed over 200 people and caused massive devastation. Many victims were buried at Loxley Chapel, and it was long whispered that when the River Loxley’s waters rose high, those buried victims became restless and rose to claim the lives of others. Unexplained disappearances and odd events only served to reinforce these tales. Loxley Chapel closed in 1993, but the buildings and graves remain. Rain has been falling steadily for the past 3 days, and the river is rising.

What do you think about that?
