“So this is what we know about the state of the UK, it’s not the same as the one you remember. We’ve gone through a reality altering apocalypse which we call The Change. At some point during this incident you ‘went’ somewhere else, specially trained counsellors form the Office of Statistics will talk to you about your experiences ‘elsewhere’ in due course, but as you know you’ve only recently returned. It is now my duty as an officer of His Majesty’s Government to explain to you the current situation.
It’s a couple of years after The Change, 1976 we think (were not entirely sure since all the clocks are broken), and the UK is a bad state. Isolated from the rest of the world. Millions dead or simply vanished, like yourselves. Civilisation barely clinging on in London, home of King Sykes I, and some of the cities like Birmingham, home of the reconstructed Parliament. The rest of the country is a feral wilderness, occupied by savage tribal and weird creatures that give the boffins who study them nightmares. Various organisations, such as the Royal Constabulary and the New Model Army, work in their own way to bring order to the Kingdom. Once you’ve found your feet you’ll ally yourself with one of them that best suits your personality. With them you’ll find work helping reclaim our Green and Pleasant Land from the horrors that currently beset it. “

UUK is an OSR game as if written by eccentric 1970s Model Railway enthusiasts who were besotted with British Post-Apocalypse and Science Fiction stories. So more world building and exploration than war gaming, based upon the stories of authors like John Wyndham and JG Ballard than Tolkien and Howard. For decencies sake it uses a modified version of The Black Hack, a streamlined take on D20 gaming with Old School sensibilities.
