When the Dark Is Gone

This is a system-light no-prep game for deep, immersive character role-playing, storytelling, exploration of relationships and strong adult themes. The players will play childhood friends who are now adults in therapy for serious ongoing issues in their lives. The character’s emotional and psycological issues all stem from a period that the characters spent as children exploring and adventuring in a fantasy world e.g. such as the following novels: Narnia, The Spiderwick Chronicles, When the Dark is Rising, Five Children and It, Verdigris Deep and Bad Blood. During the game the players will construct the fantasy world and describe what they remember of it, work out how their current problems relate to the world and help each other on the path to recovery.

The game session is set in a therapy session and some players may find elements of it challenging as it is designed to be emotional and immersive. I will be asking people prior to the session if there are any areas which they find triggering or distressing and ask everyone to respectfully avoid those topics in play.

The system and game can be downloaded in beta form here http://blackarmada.com/free-games/. It is very short but worth a read if you are considering playing. Players are welcome (and encouraged) to read the GM notes as well as the player notes as this really helps you to understand the concept.

What do you think about that?
